Blog

Every now and then, I ask the universe (aka a creative friend), “What’s new and interesting out there?” And then I end up directing a reading. 😂

Back in February, I said yes to a project that turned into a months-long journey of edits, rewrites, and finally a staged reading in May. Day of? A full audience that stayed engaged for 90 minutes with an intermission. Even better, a playwright who got to see their work land beautifully with the room. Huge thanks to caleb Corkery for trusting me with your work and being open to my overly direct feedback throughout the process, lol. And shoutout to my incredible cast, The Creative Works of Lancaster, and the Lancaster Dramatists Platform for thinking of me.

This past Friday, I had the chance to direct one of the most powerful 10-minute plays I’ve ever read at Genesius Theatre: The Sea by Taiwo Aloba. It’s a reminder that every word matters, and when intention is clear, the impact follows. To the cast who brought it to life, I’ll definitely be calling on you again.

So, grateful for these opportunities.

Now… what’s next? 👀

I can’t believe I wrapped a second round of company headshots last week! I’ve received so many kind words from my United Way of Lancaster County, PA colleagues about their headshots, and I couldn’t be more grateful. 💙

It’s always rewarding to create images that help people feel confident, comfortable, and professional in front of the camera. Honestly, some of the best micro-conversations I’ve had have happened in these moments!

I think sometimes I get so caught up in completing my job that I forget to clap for myself. So today, I’m going to do that. Here are some headshots I’ve taken over the last year at my company. 📸

Successful Supervision II

And like that, I’ve completed the Advanced portion of TJ Titcomb‘s Successful Supervision course at Cargas Systems. These trainings have offered a breath of fresh insight into leadership skills that feel new and tangible. Once again, this program taught me how to be the leader my reports need, while also knowing what’s acceptable to ask of my own leaders.

This go-round, the course reinforced the importance of time management, learning to put the right people in the role and room, and also understanding that perception is someone’s reality — proceed with empathy.

At the end of the last course, and this one, we were tasked with a goal or purpose to implement IRL. Mine? Not falling victim to the thought process of “The Sunk Cost”. Sometimes, no matter how much you invest, it’s not meant for you. Let it go, and do it bigger and better elsewhere.

Thank you again for your engaging instruction, TJ! And for your many golden nuggets of how to be a successful supervisor. 🤩

Successful Supervision I

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to take the Successful Supervision course at Cargas under the phenomenal instruction of TJ Titcomb. Happy to say I’ve officially completed the course yesterday (although, we all know training is ongoing and evolving 😉 ). I’m incredibly grateful for the insights I’ve gained and the versatility of this course, which can be impactful across numerous industries.

One of the most reassuring takeaways was the realization that much of what we ask of our managers is neither abnormal nor self-centered, but rather rooted in our faith in good leadership.

The course reinforced the importance of addressing our biases, carving out quality time for our teams, while also seeing them as individuals, and understanding both our strengths and weaknesses as leaders. Perhaps most importantly, it emphasized recognizing when certain traits can’t be coached, and that accepting this is crucial to maintaining fairness and balance—for both ourselves and others.

Thank you for your engaging instruction, TJ! I’m looking forward to learning even more from you in the future.
